In Sync With the Masses... A Good Thing?

How many of us out there are leaders? The truth is, we are all leaders in some capacity or the other. We may not hold the reins to any country, but we are all masters of, if nothing else, our own thoughts and actions.

But..
Life, as it were, is so fast-paced. It's just wake up, to work, to lunch, to home, tuck the kids in and back to work the next morning. And it is repeated, day after day after day. I can imagine a bird's eye-view of rush hour traffic. Traffic jams, people scurrying about like ants. cars moving along perfectly aligned on the motorways.

And this is what?
It's all good, don't get me wrong. We are performing a basic function of life, namely making a living, just as we should and are expected to. We are expected to do a lot more which we may not agree with, stemming mostly out of necessity and having no choice.

For instance...
Things like taking the humiliation and extra hours your boss hands out while he takes a Caribbean Cruise. Things like spousal abuse (which where I live is an integral part of living especially if you are a woman). Some things are just expected of you no matter the utter misery, unfair compliance or injustice it reeks off.

Regardless...
We are all expected to abide by it all. Non compliance, in most cases, marks you out as something of threat. It won't matter the truth you stand for, it won't matter the purity of your inner being. Your self-respect is a thing too far a notion to be conceived.

It can't be disputed...
So to such folks I say no man who is worthy of mention in the history of the world has reached his fame, respect and appreciation (posthumously even), by moving along with the masses and doing what is expected of him meekly without inquiring as to why it is... Why? How? What?

What's it to me?
This is rich coming from me, a woman of the highest regard for the usual norms of society. The only thing is, I draw the line between what is just and injustice...

Where do we draw the line?
It is a mystery to me why, if we are to move along silently with the masses, we can't do so happily and with a little something called humanity, compassion and decency. Yes. we need to go out of our way and make sacrifices and compromises, that is all part of the equation. But to what cost? That is a balance only you can perceive in your set of circumstances, but a line needs to be drawn. No one can draw it for you.

So what do we need to do?
We need to have self-respect and give it. We need to ponder and meditate on the preconceived expectations. Otherwise there is serious threat of the demise of your inner essence. We need to stand up for the weak. We can not tolerate blatant bullying. We need to promote the very ideals that look great on paper, but are loosely incorporated in society.

In a nutshell...
We just need to be more humane human beings.
